Where to Find Uncopyrighted Images for Your Blog

Uncopyrighed Images

Blogging and images

It’s no doubt that images are an important part of a blog post. Images make your blog post visually appealing and the search engines like to see that you have relevant images posted.

I have always been a little wary of just going on Google images and taking an image. Some of those images are copyrighted!

I have decided to just go the safer route and go with the royalty free photos – the photos that are not copyrighted.

So where can you get uncopyrighted images for your blog?

There are two sites that I go to in order to find uncopyrighted images:

Stock.XCHNG – http://www.sxc.hu/

morgueFilehttp://www.morguefile.com/

(Note: When you find images on these sites, you should look at the notes under the image and make sure the photographer does not want some type of credit or notification for using their work. Sometimes they want a credit back to them or for you to email them to show them where you used their images. I usually just use the ones that do not request this.)

I know that a lot of people just find any image and use it – but I just feel much better about using these uncopyrighted,  royalty-free images. (Here’s a link to the U.S. Copyright Office FAQ section.)

Using these images to help your rankings in the search engines

When you post the images to your blog, make sure you put a good keyword in the “alt” tag. You should see this option when you are inserting your image into your blog.

For example, if you have a post that is targeting the keyword, “How to find the right company,” and you have an image of binoculars, you could put in the “alt” tag something like, “Find the right company.”  I also put the keyword in the title tag as well.

Pulling it all together

Of course, the image is just one piece of the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) puzzle. You also have to make sure to make your post relevant to the keyword, offer real value, and know what the search engines are looking for.
